Don Elmore, largely a self-taught artist, has been interested in painting and drawing since he was a child. As an adult, he began taking classes in oil painting and started entering juried shows. Next he began studying the works of etchers, then developed his own line of black and white and hand-colored etchings. These small pictures included everything from oak trees and fish to cats and people with interesting faces. Once Don began studying monotypes, he turned his attention to them full-time. These one-of-a-kind relief paintings let him experiment with textures, their vivid hues produced by watercolor crayons. Now the artist divides his time between monotypes and oil paintings, combining the best of all mediums. His originals are custom-framed with handmade fabric mattes. He sells his work in juried shows around the state.
